Who we work with
Over the years we’ve been involved in delivering some of the worlds largest and most logistically complex events across the UK, Europe and rest of the world. The clients & events shown below, give a brief insight into some of the events we’ve been involved with.
Hackney Half Marathon
Motiv Sports (UK)
LW Events are contracted to deliver a range of services across all of Motiv Sport’s running event portfolio, consisting of the Hackney Half Marathon, Saucony London 10k & Oxford Half Marathon. A combined total of over 50,000 participants take part across the three events each year.
We provide a team of 8x staff that work across key areas of planning and delivery, from race direction, course operations and business & resident communications programme management, through to operations & logistics coordination, crowd management and traffic & stewarding.
CRUK London Winter Run
Cancer Research UK London Winter Run
In 2021 we were appointed by Human Race to provide course management and consultancy services for their iconic Cancer Research UK London Winter Run event, which takes place on the streets of Westminster & City of London in February each year raising in excess of £800,000 for Cancer Research UK.
With the event taking place in winter, this poses several unique operational and logistical challenges including potential inclement weather, strong winds and reduced daylight hours.
Race Against the Unknown
Nike Race Against the Unknown
For this one-off project, we were contracted to develop and deliver an urban running race for Nike. The race format developed was an innovative elimination style, multi-stage checkpoint race, with leading runners at the end of each stage progressing to the following stage and lower ranking runners being eliminated.
The concept was designed so that the top 10 runners that qualified for the third and final stage, were those with the best race strategy, navigational skills and pacing ability, and that they finished at the end of the event, in front of a crowd of the eliminated runners from previous stages. The race design maximised the experience of the immersive car park developed by production agency 160over90, by requiring runners to pass through at the start and finish of each stage.
Elite Time Trial World Championships 2023
Elite Time Trial & Para-Cycling Road World Championships 2023
Appointed to develop race safety plans across both the Elite Time Trial World Championships in Stirling and the Para-Cycling Road World Championships in Dumfries, we were required to work in a multi-agency environment across two local authority areas, two event management teams, two race directors and with two sets of governing body technical delegates.
With events being delivered simultaneously in locations 100-miles apart - we provided two teams of route crews, led by an experienced Course Manager and Race Safety Manager at each location to ensure quality control of the course build and race safety setup.
One of the many local parade groups, performing in front of the judges outside the Town Hall.
Hackney Carnival
Hackney Council’s flagship biennial community event, Hackney Carnival attracts in excess of 100,000 residents onto the streets for the day to celebrate the borough’s diversity. Since 2020, we’ve been Hackney Council’s appointed agency to provide turnkey parade route management operations and logistics services for the event - bringing in our wealth of expertise in dealing with all key stakeholders.
An event of this scale and nature requires a detailed multi-agency approach, in particular working with a range of teams within the MET Police to ensure the event footprint is secured and sufficiently protected. All aspects of planning require thorough integration with crowd management plans, the production team and transport agencies to ensure a smooth delivery is achieved across all areas of the operation.
Stage 3 finishing on The Mall
RideLondon Essex
Created by the Mayor of London and their partner agencies in 2013 as a legacy event for the London 2012 Olympic Games, RideLondon is a festival of cycling with over 100,000 participants of all ages and abilities taking part across the event weekend.
Playing a major role in the operational planning and delivery of the event in its inaugural year in 2013, our company director Liam Worthy has continued to be involved ever since. Working closely with the full-time team at London Marathon Events, we provide race safety management and delivery services for the UCI Women’s RideLondon-Essex Classique.
Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Men’s Road Race Sprint Finish in Warwick
Commonwealth Games 2022
Appointed to deliver course management services for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Marathon, Road Cycling Road Races & Time Trials, we provided a team of staff to manage the course during install, throughout competition and until the end of de-rig each day. In order to ensure the courses were suitable for Commonwealth Games competition, the team were required to work with contractors such as local authority street works, road repairs and street cleansing teams, traffic management and stewarding contractors, branding contractors, and tow-trucks & civil enforcement officers.
